In other WSOP news, the first bracelet of the 2011 WSOP went to Sean Drake from Folsom, California, after his victory in the Casino Employees No Limit Championship. Drake came out on top in a field of 850 to claim $82,292 and the coveted piece of jewellery.

A record 925 entrants took to the tables for Event 3 – the $1,500 Omaha Hi/Lo Championship. At the end of Day 2, James “Brit Abroad” Bord and Brighton´s James Dempsey were still well positioned to make a challenge for the final table and first place prize money of $262,000.

Event 4 is also under way – a $5,000 buy-in NLHE tournament with 865 players competing for a share of $4 million. After 10 levels, Annette Obrestad (who seems to have given up “Tweeting” during her games) and GUKPT winner, Praz Bansi, are well positioned, but there is a long way to go in this event.

Event 5 is a 7 Card Stud tournament in which last year´s Main Event winner, Jonathon Duhamel, faces 356 opponents in his warm-up to retain his WSOP title. And speaking of previous WSOP winners … …

Two “novelty” Heads Up rematches have been played between the final two players in the 1989 and 2003 Main Events. In the former, Johnny Chan got his revenge on Phil Hellmuth in a one-off game, but history repeated itself in the 2003 re-match, where Chris Moneymaker confirmed his superiority over Sammy Farha.

What´s Happening Next at WSOP

Two new events start today (Friday). A $1,500 buy-in Limit Hold´em Championship and a $10,000 buy-in Pot Limit Hold´em Championship. Saturday sees the start of the $1,000 buy-in No Limit Hold´em Championship – expected to see one of the biggest fields on this year´s events – and also the No-Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball Championship, which has a buy-in of $1,500.

And looking further ahead, the WSOP has announced that a special “Big One for One Drop” poker tournament will form part of the 2012 program of events. This tournament for charity will have a $1 million buy-in and already Tom Dwan, Patrik Antonius and Daniel Negreanu have pledged their participation.
