Jake Cody – Bring On Hansen

That was not actually what 22 year old UK poker player Jake Cody said after winning his quarter-final in the WSOP $3 million NLHE Heads Up Championship- but it could have been!

Jake dispensed Anthony “Tuff_Fish” Guetti, after a swings and roundabouts game which saw the UKIPT Nottingham winner come back from a chip disadvantage of 1:3 to emerge victorious in a match which lasted a little over four hours.

Rochdale born Jake now faces the unofficial king of Heads Up poker, Gus Hansen, in their semi-final  this evening, with the winner moving on to play either Ukrainian poker star Yevgeniy Timoshenko or Eric “E-Fro” Froehlich – who, back in 2005 was the youngest player at the time ever to win a WSOP bracelet.

Both Jake and Hansen have impressive recent records – As well as winning the UKIPT title in Nottingham, Jake took down the WPT Main Event in London last August and the EPT Main Event in Deauville at the start of 2010 (Allegedly, he only went to the event because he wanted to see Disneyland!).

Gus Hansen – “The Great Dane” – will be a more familiar name to many poker players because of his association with Full Tilt (but not wearing a logo this week) and his appearances on TV shows such as “Late Night Poker” and “Poker After Dark”. Gus is the current holder of the WSOPE High Roller Heads Up title and is a four time winner of $10K+ WPT events in Vegas.

Jake, who admits that his best game is 6-max, has been practising in high stakes online Heads Up matches to give him more experience of the skills required to be successful in this event. Let´s hope that Jake´s homework is rewarded in the match against Hansen and he progresses to the final.
